Pine is a popular wood because it is quick to catch fire being perfect for initial lighting of your burner. Being a softwood it burns efficiently and gives off intense heat but is quick burning meaning you will have to pay more attention to your fire and load it more often.
Gum is a hard density wood which is clean burning with great heat output and a long burning time. Gum does tend to be hard to light a fire with and for this reason works very well when burned with pine.
